Running rough

Hey guys, I was on my way into town today and I noticed that my truck was running rough. The tach. was moving up and down while sitting at a stop and then when I stepped on the accellerator there was a hesitation and delay in the truck going. Any ideas? The truck is an 05 6.0 diesel with about 73k on the odo. and it is stock. Thanks in advance.

Mine has done this intermittently for the last few years. I can't figure it out.

It will not do it for 1000 + miles after an oil change. But as the oil gets some miles on it, it starts doing it again.

No smoke, but today it would not start back after turning it off at a store. I had it towed to the house and charged up the batteries and it started up then after it warmed up I tried to restart it and it just cranked but did not start. I had this problem about 18 months ago when it was still under warranty and it was an oring or something. When the motor cools down it starts right up.

Disconnect the ICP if it still doesn't start there's a good chance it's the stc fitting in the hpop system. If it starts, icp sensor again but doubtful.

No i did not change the plug.It looked good.It was not oil socked.I did wrap the plug with elec tape to make it stiff enough to plug it back in.Have you had trouble with the plugs.I did give it a boost of WD 40 and starting fuild.i let run for about 15min.Stop it from running. it started right up. I now have code light. will take it in tomorrow to read the code.my brick scaner , i do not have the soft ware to read diesels.

Just for your info, starting fluid is a big no-no on diesels.

No I haven't but a lot of people have, esp. on the early icp's behind the turbo.

I will look into replaceing that plug.It is about $20 bucks.Ford lays you away on that ICP,no after market. With that ICP under the Y pipe or next to the turbo.bad design.I have not had any trouble with my 6.0,until the last 6 months.I do have a question.I have been looking for good replacement fuel filter other than ford.At a good price.I have been buying fram set at $63 bucks.I have oil filters dieled at $11.02 apeice.

Personally I don't use Fram fuel filters. Some folks have shown that Fram oil filters are OEM, but then others have seen Fram filters that are not the proper design. Who knows, but to avoid any question, I do the following:

Get your fuel and oil filters from Dieselfiltersonline or at an International dealership. Lots of documentation showing aftermarket filters cause BIG problems. Use only Racor (OEM manufacturer), International, or Motorcraft filters.

Many people ignore this advice and then have problems. Few of them can swallow the pill that they created the issues.
