Unhappy A rash of cracking intake tubes

Well, a "rash" may be a bit of an exxageration, but about a month ago I noticed that the intake tube that connects between the CCV bracket and the turbo inlet had a crack along the top of it. I got a replacement from a local shop that had a spare from a parts truck they had on hand. Well, I was checking my oil and noticed today that the replacement has cracked. This one is cracked parallel with the clamp at the turbo inlet. I have never heard of this happening and it has happened to me twice in as many months. Is there something I'm doing that's causing this? Anyone else noticed these tubes having a tendency to crack?

Thanks.

I removed mine a while ago, but maybe you're tightening it too much? Although I'll admit to never hearing of this before...

The adapters that Clay sells ar efor the intake plenums- IH made cheesy thin stamped metal that can easily be distorted with application of Gorilla torque.

I've seen them crack next to the clamp on the turbo. Usually on the bottom side where it's hard to notice.

If you need one soon and are forced to go to the dealer to get it, take a picture of your engine first and circle the hose. When I tried to get one they kept handing me the other half of the hose. I had to walk the parts guy outside to my truck 2 different times to show him the hose.

Thanks for the input guys. When I replaced my first one a month or so ago, we called the dealer to get a price and you're right, they have a hard time understanding exactly which tube we're talking about. I have my mechanic ordering me one today at his price, and he knows which tube I'm talking about. I hate to drive my truck with that crack there, but I don't really have a choice right now - my commuter '86 VW diesel is having some other issues that I'm concerned will leave me stranded. I'm just doing my best to keep the boost levels down in hopes that that means less air and other stuff being sucked in.

I would just wrap some tape around the area that is cracked till I got the new tube. This is strange.

I just put some good 'ol "hundred-mile-an-hour" tape on it. Hopefully it will hold up for a couple of days until I can replace the tube.

I did the CCV mod, and used a piece of 3" aluminum tubing that we use for helicopter driveshafts- fit like a glove LOL. But yeah it's an easy mod that'll keep the damn crankcase vapors from gumming up the turbo and intercooler. But good thing I kept the original plastic piece so I can pass smog....

Does the aluminum tubing taper fron 4" down to 3" ? All of the ccv mods I have seen still use the factory tubes with a 4" piece of aluminum pipe put in place of the CCV bracket. I would think you would have to still have a 4" inlet at the air filter???

I got my CCV kit from Clay and it came with an aluminum tube. I was the one that gave my plastic piece to someone. I don't know why he needed it, but I sent it to him.

Take a picture of what is breaking.

dang I'm sorry- I used a piece of 4" diameter by 3" long, to replace the CCV piece. Our Cobra helo tailrotor driveshafts are 4" tubing LOL...

I have an extra one sitting in my garage if anyone needs one. Since I went to the ATS ported housing, I no longer need the tapered tube.
