Hey guys looking to see if anyone can help out with a 94 f350 7.3 ambulance package. The trans is acting up. It was apparently garaged due to the trans not having 1st gear I believe, so forward movement was minimal. I personally took on the task of rebuilding the E4OD. The rings and friction plates were shot and burnt to hell. Never did a rebuild but had the ATSG book and did it step by step to the T. Anyway after rebuild got it moving again but incorrectly installed the TC by not clicking it in 3 times into the trans so it wouldn't move very well. After a friend explained what I did wrong, I fixed and we got a little more torque and speed out of it. However it does not seem to be normal. Seems first gear is still very sluggish but once it hits second and 3rd seems to get up to speed. High RPMs with little torque from a start. OD light flashing too. What can you guys think of? Isn't there a way of reading codes without the AE reader? Any help would be great! Thanks.
Did you put in a new solenoid pack? If the clutches were burned that bad friction material can plug up the solenoid pack causing multiple problems. Did you thoroughly clean the valve body? Any little bit of debris in the worm tracks cause problems with the valves wearing. Did you pull all the valves out of the pump and check for wear on your PR valve? Sounds like there could be multiple issues with the trans, the E4OD isnt a bad build but not to easy for the beginner either. Hope this helps.
Solenoid pack no, I didn't. But I did remove all the valves and clean them out pretty good. I did test all the solenoids while I had it out and they all worked. They all clicked when power applied to each one. I don't have a reader and think that would help point me in the direction more than guessing would. Isn't there a way of using a test light to count flashes or something?
Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link for reading the codes. Wire in a light or meter as described. With the key on and engine off I think you have to hold the throttle wide open when getting the codes.
