edge evolution cts or ????

OK

so I don't have any gauges, why I didn't tow with my truck. (well not all the time) I used the ex but now its gone so I need to get my f250 ready to tow, our toy box and its very heavy.

I had all banks on the ex but I'm thinking of going with the Edge evolution CTS for my monitoring and some extra HP. is anyone using this in there 7.3?

thanks

Banks is just overpriced stuff (have to pay for all those advertisements). The Edge will give you a slight increase in power, but I'd consider a custom tuner that can offer you a switch on the fly chip so you can change tunes while driving down the road. You can also get live tuning done to tweak the chip in to your liking if you so desire.

Tony's up in Fort Worth, Jody usually makes it to Austin once a year.

I've got the Edge Evolution on mine. It's nice, and if' you're not looking at doing to much with it, it will do the job. But I would like something with a little more flexibility for the occasional heavy tow/off road adventure. You'll find that a lot of the guys 'round here love the DP Tuner, and the more I research it, the more I agree. But again, it's all up to personal preference.

I guess I should add that if you get a tuner, get gauges as well. A tuner will change a lot of things about your truck and it can be very easy to destroy something on it if you can't watch what's going on.

I am running the edge evolution, have had it on now for about a year or better, I will say it did add some power and acc. to the engine and I am OK with it, but I would have to say there are better tuners on the market, just depends on what are you looking to do. I do like the EGT readings on the screen, that is about the best I can say about it. So you do have one reading that is important. I am looking for another tuner, but havent decided on which one to get yet.
I am not looking to blow my transmission or ruin my motor, just want to wake up my motor and get better fuel economy. I do pull a 6000lb trailer on a regular basis from state to state and average 12 to 13 mpg on a regular basis, with approx 18 mpg empty, so really can not complain. Like I said I am sure there are better ones on the market just depending on what you want.

I've got the Edge Evolution CTS on my 03 7.3 and it seems to be a good unit. Of course you will always get a better tune with getting it custom tuned. The CTS allows me to monitor 5 things at once. I'm sure there are tuners out there that can "open" these units and custom tune them. I did notice there were some things you could change yourself on the unit to customize the tune, like idle, shifts, fuel at wot, and I think timing. You might be able to adjust the fuel at different areas besides idle and wot, but I haven't had time to play with it and still need to get the egt sensor on before I adjust anything. I plan on learning how to tune diesels in the future.

thanks everyone,
I did get the CTS but when I pulled the old supertunner tune out and back to stock I lost the program and now I have to get a the truck re-flashed.
I decided to buy the CTS because of the touch screen and it had digital gauges on it that's the main reason I bought it.

A buddy of mine also had problems with a Hypertech on his '01. I'd stay away from anything that actually flashes the PCM. All it takes is a comm error and you just bricked your truck. Bad news.

thanks

I did end up getting the CTS and It has a good story with it.

I read the instructions on the cts, did a update on it and registered it. at that point all was good. I then pulled out my old super-tuner that I bought when the truck was new.
I started to return the truck to the stock tune. I thought the tuner was done and pulled it out of the truck, installed the new cable for the CTS and kept getting a communication error. so after a couple of hrs trouble shooting checking fuses and realized I lost the stock tune and neither of the tuners can get past the comm error.
I towed the truck to a mech that put the new stock tune in it and now the edge is up and running. It does make a big cloud of black smoke but it is fast.
