I have an 82 Bronco that has 3 wireing harnesses in it. The POs have used parts of all 3. As you can imagine I have lots of shorts and problems with it. Does anyone have a bare Minimum wireing diagram of only the wires I need to make the motor run? This is an offroad only toy and I want something as simple as possible to trouble shoot on the trail. I want to run everything with simple toggle switches (no keys just toggles and push button starter).
If you get a Chevy style one wire distributer for your ford you can do away with almost all the wiring. You still need the solenoid and wires going to the starter, a push button starter switch could then be used, the alternator can be switched to a one wire chevy style, and everything else can go to the trash. I wouldn't do it quite this way for a street vehicle but you could.

Any Chevy atlernator in the 70's or 80's will give you what you want thought you may need to modify the mounting bracket a little with spacers but its a pretty easy mod. The best bet is to pick on up at a scrap yard for $20 in my opinion.
I just got done wiring in a one wire alternator. I only has one wire that goes to the battery. After about 6 months trying to get all the rats nest of wires sorted out this was very easy and cheaper than completely rewiring the entire vehicle
