A friend has a tuner he isn't using anymore....sold his 2004 F250 with 6.0. Mine is an early 2005, any changes I have to make to run it?
I don't believe so. But make sure he returned his truck to stock and unlocked the tuner. Then you just need to pull your stategy code and have your tunes writen by performance shop of choice (you won't be able to use his tunes). Also, a tuner can only be unlocked from a vehicle so many times (i think 5) and then you have to pay SCT to reset it.
OK....this idea didn't work out very well.....Friend came over with his SCTX3 Power Flash and "installed" it in my truck. Now the truck won't even attempt to start.... has the wrench lite on and when I tried to read the codes with my CanBus II Innova code reader, it says it can not find the strategy. Tried to re-install the "saved" stock program and same thing.
Did it save the stock program when it originally started up? Is it set for the same flash that you have in your truck? Did you read your flash in your truck?
I came up and told me the 2 lines of code numbers for my truck. Friend had me write them down ( I did). He then proceeded to load the street tune into my truck. It said it was saving my stock tune, then uploaded the street tune. Friend said it seems to take a shorter period of time to do mine than it did with his.
After the SCT finished and told me to turn off the key and remove the instrument...Not really sure of the procedure of all this as the friend did it. Anyway, tried to start the truck after all this and got the wrench light in the dash and turning the key to the start position did nothing.
After all this he said he was returning it to stock and proceeded to upload the stock data back into my truck.....obviously, it didn't. He tried a couple of times....no go. HELP!

I am really sorry to hear that is happening but when you say he was trying to load the street tune are you refering to a canned tune on the SF3 or a custom tune on the X3?
I really don't know.... I thought he knew what he was doing.....I don't know what an SF3 is. But he said he could load the Street Tune that was in the X3. I got a sinking feeling that he erased my PCM and he didn't really have the stock data saved and , of course, my PCM won't run on HIS canned tune he had in the X3.....
THIS being said, what are my options? Towing it to Ford to have the PCM reflashed?
The SF3 is just a different SCT model, i wasn't sure which one he was working with but now that you said its the X3 i know for a fact it wasn't a canned tune he was loading because the X3 does not hold canned tunes. So what your friend did was tried to load tunes into your truck that were made for his truck (his strategy code) and that is why the truck wouldn't start. Then when he tried to return it to stock it probably used his settings which would not work. You may need to call SCT tech support tomorrow and see if there is anything they can help with before you call the tow truck. We all like to trust friends but sometimes it is best to ask others first. That is why i told you this morning to pull your stategy code and send it out to have your custom tune built. Anyway, not trying to preach but that is all the knowledge i have i wish you luck and i hope it is not a costly repair, maybe someone else will have some input on the subject that may help.
I was afraid of getting this answer..... I was a little anxious going in, but he didn't didn't need to coax me too much either.....I will call tech support in the AM.... are they east coast or west coast? My luck, California! OH WOW....Florida!!! Thank GOD for small favors!
Dang...
NOT what you want to hear... but
hope u don't need the truck for a bit...
As others have alluded to... it sounds like he loaded Windows on your Mac computer
but use the sct to read your strategy, call one of the tuners and maybe they can assist..
either it will cost you about $100 for a new tune or two and/or Ford's price for reloading the pcm....
IF you have to go to ford, abd still have warranty, unplug both batteries, leave them unplugged for a couple of hours and turn the key on to clear codes... hook batteries back up , then have it towed in.. and don't mention sct !!!
Sounds like you tried to load 04 tunes on an 05 truck. Different processor, different tunes and won't work. Call SCT (if you haven't already) and have them help. I'm pretty sure this has happened before. Hopefully you don't have to get your truck reflashed at Ford. Then call and get you some tunes for an 05 truck and enjoy!!!
