I have a 2003 Ford F250 6.0L with 190K miles, with no modifications and never run a programer, my question is ; at idle and at 55mph the engine missing/surging while load baring but when engine is not under pull it smoothes out. The high pressure oil pump, EGR cooling tube and EGR valve was replaced at 180k. This statred not long after this upgrade, the ford dealership has very little idea what is causing this, is there anyone that can shed light on my problem.
mine did that same thing and when i had it scanned came up as egr valve so i took it out and cleaned it and put in a new o ring and gasket and ran good
Im having the same problem. The dealer wasn't sure what it is but since it also has a slow start up they are looking at the charging system to see if maybe the alternator is phasing out and causing it to send insufficiant voltage to run proper. They are probably going to get back to me tomorrow and let me know. I was also thinking it could possibly be the pigtail to my ICP since I did not replace that when I replaced my ICP sensor
Mine has slow starts along with all the other issues Im having, my battery light is coming on and has been for some time but havent checked into it because the battery is staying charged so you may have something with being a alt. issue.
From what ford was telling me today is that the alt will faze in and out sometimes itll be ok other times itll run like crap and drain batteries. I replaced batteries a week ago and it was ok then it started doing it again. The dealership is going over my charging system so I hope to hear back from them tomorrow about it. Ill keep you updated too it. Did you load test your batteries? I popped the caps on my batteries and the one cell was completely dry and the other 5 were low and it was the driverside battery thats connected to the ficm and pretty much everything else except glow plugs.
I've been going back and forth for a couple weeks now trying to figure it out. I'll definatly let you know what the dealership says tomorrow though. I also didn't throw any codes.
PS.. Don't talk on the phone with your women when typing..I had to quickly edit this because I had typed baby in here....
All these battery and alternator issues will more than likely cost you - to the tune of a much more expensive FICM. Catch electrical problems early or start saving for the FICM ($600 rebuilt by SWAMPS or $800+ at the dealership).
Also, checking voltage means nothing on a diesel engine battery. At a minimum, you need to load test it. Better yet, take it into a shop that has the high tech testers.

Hey bismic I have a question. I was looking at the SWAMPS FICM. The mild tunes that they do, do you know how well they work or what all they do? I didn't see any info on the site about the tunes.
Picked my truck up and several $ later, #6 injecter was dead, they replaced it and the truck is alot better but still stumbles while starting and dead stop takeoff is alittle slow, I checked my FICM readings and Im pulling 48v at buzz and 48.5 at idle. Any thoughts on why it still wants to stumble at starting at times???
Yeah I got mine back and everything is checking out...They didn't test the FICM but I think I am going to test it this weekend..I dont know what else it could be..
While driving down the road my truck shut off and wouldnt start, had it towed to the local dealer and found out my high pressure oil pumps bad. I just had it replaced 6 mouths ago but somehow I misplaced my receipt and the dealership that did the work doesnt have it own record WTH... love the truck but its breaking me up...
