Hi guys, I'm new here. My daughter who is a senior in high school decided she needed to have a 4wd truck to be a proper farm girl. So, she recently purchased a 1976 F250 with a 360 engine (new crate motor 30k miles ago) and automatic transmission. Truck has mudder tires on it with a 3" lift kit.
I'm in the process of fixing a few things on this truck to make it fully road worthy (the brakes were scary on this when I tore into them so I'm in the process of replacing everything front to back including all new steel lines).
Now I'm turning my attention to a few electrical issues (turn signal switch needs replaced and radio needs attention) and to getting the horn to work. I need to replace the steering wheel and the horn insert. What years are interchangable with a 76? This is a non-tilt column if that matters.
actulally the factory correct sterring wheel for that year was started to be used in 70 or71 and went to 77. but i think you should be able to interchange the 67-69 with little to no issues. and as for the 78-79 wheels you'd have to change the colums as well. and i was told once that you have to use the 78-9 wiring harness as well. but if you did that the you could also install the ford three spoke sport steering wheel like i'd like to put into my truck
Thanks guys. I just want to find the original parts to make this truck safe for my daughter to drive (she needs a horn!). Paredneck33 - While swapping the column probably wouldn't be too bad to do, I already have more projects than I have time. So I'm going to stick with just trying to find the correct wheel.
Looks like I have to have a minimum number of posts before I can place a want-ad. So, I guess I'll start posting all my questions!
Thanks guys. I guess I'll start posting all my questions!
BTW welcome to FTE. Post away! There are a lot of good people here (plus a couple of old geezers!). Plenty of knowledge to pass around. If you get stuck or don't know, post a question and someone will be there with a good answer.
Well, I found a used horn insert for the wheel. I think I'll give the cracks in the wheel itself the JB Weld treatment. I've done that on other vehicles over the years and had good luck with the results.
Also bought a new turn signal switch/wiring also since the cancel cam was broken. That doesn't look like any fun to install!
This truck is slowly coming together. Working on buttoning up the new brakes and headers/exhaust. Should be ready to drive next week if all goes as planned.
