I have got a 74 F250 highboy. I now have a new job that keeps me away from the house a lot. Now that I can afford it I am wanting to take my truck to a reputable shop to have it gone thru. It needs a lot of work including upgrading the steering from the power assist.
I do not need any bodywork done just pretty much all mechanical. I live in North Lousiana but am not opposed to having the truck worked on out of state. Does anyone have any ideas where I should take it? The truck will need to be picked up or shipped to whereever it needs to go. I have no way or time to take it anywhere.
bump again! surely someone knows of a good shop on this forum....if not anybody wanna do the work for me??? with my new work schedule it will be impossible for me to get my truck going. PLEASE HELP!

well your original post is pretty vague. What kind of 'mechanical' stuff are you looking to have fixed?
Are you looking for someone that works specifically on '70's era vehicles or just a good mechanic?
Not sure how many people here are from Northern Louisiana so that might be part of the problem.
Depending upon what you are trying to have fixed, do you have a budget?
There is a great shop near me in Oswego, IL - Shipman's Garage - but you have to get the truck up here.
well i am not sure of everything wrong with the truck. it does run but not perfectly. i have bought quite a few parts for it that need put on. probably still needs to be dialed in to get running right. all brake parts need replaced. has a few leaks. probably needs new hubs in the front. needs a new gas tank installed which i can purchase. needs all fluids changed in it. needs front driveshaft. and needs the steering trashed and upgraded, its got the old power assist in it which is garbage and has a lot of slack in the steering. other than that just looked over and checked out and made road worthy.
dont care if its a fomoco specialtist or a good mechanic. i know a lot of mechanics around here dont want to mess with these older trucks. i know i could probably find someone around here to do the brakes and tune it up but really doubt i can find anyone that knows how or is willing to do the steering upgrade for me.
like i said i could do some of it myself but i dont have the time. figured i might as well try to find someone who knows these vehicles and who could do the steering right and get it all done at once.
as far as a budget i feel like realistically im gonna spend at least 2,000 on it or more. i just want somebody who knows what they are doing and get it right.
with all that being said keep bringing on the suggestions. i dont really care who works on it as long as they know what they are doing. it doesnt even have to be a shop.
