Here a few days ago, had been driving the truck around all day.
Came home, then a few hr's later went to start the truck, and it's like trying to start it with a 6v batt, cranked slow.
Checked the alt with a fluke 77 multmeter get 14.92v
Batts checked out at 12.66 this morning before starting.
I did notice that when I turn on the key, before the wait to start light goes out I hear a click & the batt light blinks then the start light goes out.
Everytime this happen is when the slow crank occur's
These does not happen all the time just when it's been sitting for more then a few hrs.
Now 2 days before I installed a brake controller using the same wire's that the previous owner's had used. I also installed a trailer wire harness
part #755-1556.
I checked the fueses and in the fues box under the hood the 30a fues in SUD 4 is blown not sure what it goes to, havn't found my book for the truck yet lol
If anyone has some direction on where to start looking it would be greatly appreciated .
Thanks rocky, good to know cause i'm about to hook up the trailer today.
in my post I talked about the clicking sound. I found out that it's coming from the solenoid just to the left of the fuel filter.
Is that for my glow plugs? cause when that clicks loud is when it will slow crank. Is it going bad or is the glow plugs bad and making the solenoid work wrong?

I was experiencing a slow cranking problem last year. It turned out to be a bad starter. I even checked the amp draw, I don't remember the exact numbers but it was within specs.
I replaced the starter after several days of debate with myself and it has been cranking a starting just fine ever sense.
I saw that another guy had the same issue.
so far all I have replaced is the GPR cause the old one was clicking louder then I thought it should. I'm gonna check and make sure that all the conection are good, and go from there.

Thanks again for all the info
Before I changed the starter I did change the glow plugs as there were only a few of them working. I also changed the GPR to a larger unit at the same time just for good measure. After all that I was still experiencing the slow to start syndrome to me it seemed as though it turning over OK but I had to crank it over a few times before it would fire. After I changed the starter I found out that it was turning over slower then it should have..
Anyway good luck, I did as most people have recommended cleaned the battery terminals, load tested the battery and tested the cables before changing the starter.
