2000 expedition is knocking, engine light on

2000 expedition is knocking, engine light on

Hi
my expedition has engine light on, gives me p401 code, have changed egr valve, is smoking and making noise, please help

I'm sure the source of the knock is your best starting point to solve this issue.

1. What is knocking?
2. Where is the noise coming from?
3. Is it a genuine knock or is it more of a tick noise?

Hi,
Is more of a tick noise and smokes when it is at stand still.
Noise seems to be coming from the top/front of engine.
Took it to Auto Zone just now and it also gave me a P0430 code

Hmm, it sounds like one of the spark plugs came out. That could explain the noise, the EGR issue and the P0430 code. Inspect each of the COPs over the spark plugs and see if any of them have lifted up even slightly. Also see if you can feel compression coming out around any of them when the engine is running.
