Installed my alarm!!!!

Well,

After spending all day Saturday, and most of Sunday, in the garage, my new alarm is now installed...

I installed the AutoPage RS-750lcd alarm with remote start. It works great, and all the little extras are pretty cool, too...

It has the LCD remote, which gives you feedback when arming/disarming and remote start, pages you when alarm is activated, gives you temperature readout of inside of truck, and other options.

Just a few tips for anyone thinking about doing this to their SD:

1. Make sure to remove all fuses on the alarm/remote start system, before installing anything!!!!

2. I purchased an alarm/remote start wiring schematics book off of ebay for the Ford SD's. This book, when purchased, is sent to you in .pdf format, and you just print it out. It contained very detailed instructions on installing alarms/remote starts, and also tells you the colors of the wires and where the are located in the truck.

3. Refer to www.eurekaboy.com/f250/designtech.htm Stan, did a remote start install on his '99 F250, and has excellent pics and an awesome wiring diagram. THANKS STAN!!!!!!

All in all, I will say that I would NEVER attemp this on someone elses vehicle. I was nervous enough doing it to mine, and couldn't stand the thought of screwing up someone elses. Mid way through the install, I must say that the huge cluster of wires from the system started to worry me.. But as long as you focus on one part at a time, things will work out...

But I am VERY happy with the results.

Installed my alarm!!!!

Great post and info. I am just about to do the same thing on my truck. Bought the truck without remote locks 'cause I was going to add remote start/alarm combo with remote locks. How much did you pay for the system and where did you buy it? I was looking for a paging system. Viper has one, but the warranty is contingent upon having a "professional" install it. I have the Haynes SD manual with wiring diagrams. I have no fear of wiring it myself. Can you give me some tips and things to look out for? Thanks

Jimmie

Installed my alarm!!!!

I bought mine on Ebay for $175... The same issue applies with the warranty. It's essentially void since I didn't have it "professionally installed"...I wasn't too concerned about it, considering the type of "warranty" help I have received in the past from alarm installers. I'm pretty sure than any of the "name brand" alarms out there are going to have the same warranty issue.

The autopage alarm will page me if the alarm has been activated, and the lcd screen on the remote will tell me which sensor was activated.

The best piece of advice I can give is: don't use the little quick connects to connect the alarm/remote start wires to the ignition and accessory wiring located under the steering column. This is 10 gauge wire and the quick connects do not connect well to wire that thick. The quick connects worked will for all other connections.

One other note: my truck has the factory keyless entry, but there wasn't anything that I had to do to disable it. As long as I don't use the keyless entry remotes that came with the truck, then it is never activated.

Good Luck, and let me know if you have any other questions that I might can help out with..

Installed my alarm!!!!

Just to add a bit to this thread, I've installed a lot of after market starters in different vehicles, and by far the easiest installation I've done was in my '99 SD. When you open the panel under your steering wheel, just about everything is there right in front of you. Easy to find....

Good luck

Installed my alarm!!!!

When I installed my Bulldog remote starter, I took some pics and wrote a tech article for this site. I got a message from Ken (webmaster) last week saying they wanted to use my article so I assume it will be posted soon!

Installed my alarm!!!!

I see them on ebay for $175-$179, is that a good price?
Also will that work for my door locks? I have the same setup as jamesg, power locks but no keyless entry.

Thanks Bryan

Yeti,

I bought mine for $175 with the "Buy It Now" option from sound2000nb.

Do you have the auto lock and unlock feature on your truck? Where the locks engage when you start driving, and then unlock when you turn off the ignition?

The way I understand the documentation, as long as you have electric locks, the wires that I hooked in to should be there.

One other note:

If you install the AutoPage alarm/remote start ( and probably any other aftermarket alarm/remote start), you will need to purchase 2 or 3 additional relays.

Mine only came with one, and you need one for each: the starter kill, ignition3, domelight supervision, and horn (if you want to use it with the supplied siren). The relay for the parking lights is built in to the system.

No, I do not have this

No they do not auto lock or unlock, I run a bulldog and had to get the relays to allow keyless entry.

Perhaps I will check into it, heck if bulldog has it autopage must, it looks like a way better system than the bulldog.

Yeti,

On the Autopage unit, there is one wire for lock, and one for unlock. The installation manual that came with the alarm (which by the way, is very good), just tells you to tie in to the lock and unlock wires behind the dash.

If you want, I can try to scan the pages in the manual pertaining to the door locks, and you can take a look at them...

Just let me know.

Bryan,

If you can that would be great, I would assume that they would be the same wires that I used for the bulldog, mine is a 01.

I think the wire colors were :

PWR DOOR LOCK: PNK/YEL
PWR DOOR UNLOCK: PNK/LT.GRN

Yeti,

Those are the wires!!!! The alarm will hook up with no problem...

I'll see if I can find a scanner and get the pages of the manual for you... It may take me a few days..
