Installed my alarm!!!!

Bryan and Yeti,

Great thread! I was looking at a Viper system for about twice the price, but your system by AutoPage looks like the same thing. On a side note to Yeti, a friend of mine is a Bulldog installer. I was going to use a Bulldog since I am a dealer. No time to be an installer, I just sell the units and subcontract. We've been having some problems with the remote starter units. Some of the key modules have failed or not worked at all. The transponders have been failing and their instructions/tech support has been poor. I am not happy with the Bulldog units. I think I will get the AutoPage if Bryan likes his. How large is the remote?
Yeti, I ordered the truck without Autoloc and without remote entry figuring it was redundant and a waste of money if I was going to install an alarm/remote start anyway.

Thanks for the great info

Installed my alarm!!!!

jamesg,

The alarm actually comes with 2 different remotes. You get the lcd remote, and a regular 8 button remote.

The lcd remote is pretty bundlesome to carry in your pocket. Not too bad in my dress clothes, but almost impossible to get into a jean pocket. But, that's the price you pay to look COOL!!!!!

The other remote is able to do all of the functions of the lcd remote (i.e. arm/disarm, remote start/stop, etc.), but it is not able to get feedback from the system (i.e. temp, trigger paging, feedback on the remote start)

I haven't tested how far away I can be from the truck and the remote start still work, but the great thing about the lcd is that it will tell you whether or not the truck started.

One other cool feature of the alarm, is the knock paging sensor. Here is how it works: There is a module that you place near your windshield. It is about 1 inch square and 1/2 inch tall, and connects to the main control unit. When you arm the system a certain way, someone can tap lightly on the glass right by the sensor, and it will page you to let you know they are at your truck!!! Of course, this does require that you tell them where the sensor is...hehe...The sticker that is provided looked more like an advertisement, so I didn't use it...

Hope this helps...Sorry for the long post...

Installed my alarm!!!!

I don't really know how to put this so I hope you understand it: What are all the things you are monitoring for the alarm? I would like to have sensors on the rear sliding glass window, both side windows in the Super Cab, passengers and drivers side doors and windows. Can this be done, or do I need additional "stuff". I looked at the system briefly. Looks nice and is probably what I need. The Viper pager is fairly large. Not a good pocket sized thing unless you want to impress the ladies.

Thanks

Jimmie

Installed my alarm!!!!

Forgot to ask, how long did the install take you? Also got the new Haynes manual for SD's. Has all the wiring diagrams in it. Very good book for the money. I think it's like $15.00

I am only monitoring what comes standard with the alarm. The alarm comes with a shock/glass sensor that you adjust the sensitivity on. I have it set pretty sensitive since I want it to detect glass breakage all the way around.

I don't have the sliding rear window, so I don't have to worry about that aspect.

The doors and the hood are also monitored.

You can add an additional sensor to it called a Wireless PIR sensor, which is basically the same as a motion sensor in a home alarm system. you can check it out at http://www.autopageusa.com/autopageusair70s.htm

Let me know if you have any other questions...I'm by no means an expert, but I'm willing to share any info regarding my installation.

I actually on my SECOND , the first stopped working after about 6 months, I installed the same unit again for the sake of ease, but this one works a lot better than the first.
It is only remote start, but I think with all the trinkets on my truck and my system, I want to step up to an alarm.

Plus, some of these girls Im dating live in some bad areas!!!

Installed my alarm!!!!

Update!!!!

I just wanted to give everyone an update that was asking about the Autopage alarm I installed. Three weeks ago, the remote start stopped working. I called AutoPage and they told me to send it in. I disconnected all the plugs, and just sent the brain in. The repaired it, and I had it back within a week or so. I just reinstalled it, and everything is working fine.

Even though I was dissapointed that something went wrong so early with it, I am very impressed with their customer service. They fixed it, no questions asked, at no charge, even though it was not installed by an Autopage dealer.

I just wanted to pass this along...

Installed my alarm!!!!

Hello,

Figured I'd tag in on this thread. Hope ya don't mind. A couple of months ago there was a thread about a Viper 550 ESP Alarm/Remote Start being installed (Don't remember who started it. Problem was that the RS would set off the alarm when the truck shut down in an '03 since they had to wire the Door Open sensers to the dome light. Something to do with Ford changing the way the door latch pins work on '02 or '03 trucks. Was just wondering whether or not anyone found a work-around.

Thanks,
1LT Anthony Somma
