FICM

I ran across this forum and found it to be very helpfull. I was working on a 2004 F-550 tow truck and retreived codes on all the injectors having low circuit conditions. Truck would not start unless customer gave it a shot of either (bad idea). I read the messages concerning resolder of PC board in FICM. I removed FICM, removed the eight screws plus the cap on reverse side and the seven screws under the cap. Had a little trouble splitting the two because of the material they use to hold the board in place but with some carefull prying they came apart. After inspecting the smaller board I could not find any breaks in the solder paths but I did notice that the solder rings where the seven screw post are where slightly corroded. I cleaned the solder rings with a pencil eraser on both sides of the board and reassembled. After reinstalling the truck started. I seemed to run fine but acted like it had a misfire. I suspect a bad injector, maybe because of the low voltage comming from the FICM. I now get two codes, P0113 and P2552. Still addressing the lack of power and the DTC's I found. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I would check for a broken/chaffed wire in the PCM/FICM harness first. Fairly common problem on the 04's. I wouldn't suspect an injector until I had the FICM problem solved first. If you have less than 45 or 46 volts at the FICM, the FICM is faulty and needs to be repaired or replaced.

Which pin of the seven should be tested for the voltage?

Here ya go. Hope this helps. You need to check the voltage key on engine off and while cranking. Also, if you'll do a search in this forum for both codes you'll find some useful information about the wiring. The P0113 is for a wire. The P2252 is a FICM monitor circuit code---open/shorted circuit, FICM, or PCM

I am assuming from the pic with the seven screw labels that the (12v+ in) is for main power to the PSB and the (48v+ out) is power supply for distribution to the injectors along with the (5v+ Logic) supplying the microprocessor. Is the (5v - GND) a ground (common) for the supply circuit to the microprocessor (5v+ Logic) or is it actually a (-5v) for the microprocessor?? .. and what is the purpose for the (Clock in) terminal ??

I've so far unable to determine why this FICM has failed any help would be greatly appreciated..

LOL--I, sir, am not an electrical person by any stretch of the imagination. You are correct about the 12 and 48 volt screws, that I know for sure. I'll see if I can find you a link or another more detailed picture of FICM wiring. Did you read all the FICM information in the tech folder?

I have the information stored on my computer but it's too big to post here and I don't have the URL. If you'll PM me your email I'll send it to you.
