EEC ground checks

I'm still chasing that dang code 18 on 86 F150 5.0. I haven't been able to get to the junkyards to gather TFI modules because of pouring rain. So, I've been piddling with wiring checks in the meantime. Today I did the basic ground and power checks the the computer in the Haynes manual. Everything checks out good except EEC Module Ground. According to the manual, from pin 40 and 60 to battery neg., I should have less than 5 ohms. I've got around 30 ohms. Also checked it to ground on the door hinge and get the same reading. Is my ground wire shot or could I be missing a ground strap or something? Would this have any effect on the code 18? By the way, this truck had a long block put in about 2 years ago and has never ran right since.

EEC ground checks

there should be an other small wire comming off your neg batteriy cable . I think that is were the eec is grounded ..try that

EEC ground checks

I checked it with a digital ohm meter and it checks out OK from the connector to the battery. Still got the same trouble. I'm thinking during the engine swap, the wiring may have been pulled or torn. I'm not really sure. I know it's aggravating though. By the way chas1234, I checked my rpm's at 65, about 28 or 2900 in 3rd gear with 3.55's. Thanks.

EEC ground checks

The ground wire on the neg. battery clamp was corroded on the inside. When I wiggled it it would make contact. Rewired it and drove the truck about 10 miles. Checked the codes again and no more code 18. Thanks to all who helped with this.
