I am trying to locate hood spears for my '51 Ford F1. Not the spears with Ford stamped in, but the two horizontal spears that are placed above and below the Ford arrow and connect to a "C"-shaped bullet nose at the front.
The Spears you are refering to are the "Extra Cab" optional Spears.
There were two "grades" of "luxury" in the 51 cabs: The standard was the "Five Star Cab," and the upgraded version was the "Five Star Extra Cab"
The standard Five Star had only the single spear. The Five Star Extra Cab had the extra hood side trim in addition to the standard spear. The extra trim was comprised of a nose arrow (shaped kind of like the "C" on the hat of the Cincinnati Reds [who lost tonight to the Giants - dummies] ) with an additional piece of straight trim coming back from each point both above and below the original spear. The 5 Star Extra Cab Trim looked like this on the 51 (I'm sure Ilya will post a 52 set):
Of interesting note all of these pieces with the exception of the "C" piece were a type of stainless steel Ford called "Bright Metal" which is fairly soft. The "C" was chrome plated pot metal.
The spears themselves are getting difficult to find off a truck. But if Ilya (51 PanelMan) doesn't post here and have a set, I'd check e-bay. A set comes up about once every 3 months or so.
Note also that the additional pieces you are looking for require a special clip (about 6 per side) and finding ones that work properly (the aftermarket ones are pretty poor) is pretty tough as well!
If you do not have the "5 Star Extra Cab" (Identified by a drivers side door lock; stainless windshield trim; glove box lock; inside door panels; chrome wind wings, etc), then your single spear is correct for your truck without the additional pieces.
Here's the '52. Not my truck, wish it was. It's Jim Welch's truck that was on the cover of Vintage Truck Magazine. The '52 "Extra" upper and lower spears are the same pieces as supplied on the '51s.

I have a few sets from trucks that I've parted out. I'll need to go through them and pick out two sets for my trucks. The rest I won't need. Keep in mind that the ones that Ihave all need some kind of straightening and polishing.
Since you only have three posts, I don't think that you're able to PM or email from this site. You can email me at modelking2000 at hotmail dot com and I can let you know.
I have a couple of sets from a Five Star cab as well as some other standard sets. My email is dap64@netzero.net If you can email a pic of what you want ( or post it on FTE) I'll see if I have it

Oh I'm not particularly interested in the "Reds" or the "Cards" - YET! Like you, for the moment, we just need people to beat the Giants.....Go Padres!
ISO: 1951 /52 Ford F100 Hood trim spear (right lower or left upper)
Looking for a original piece of hood trim from a 1951 / 52 Ford F100 pick-up.
Item is the stainless steel piece missing in the above pics. The lower right side piece is identical as the upper left side. Item number 17623 in the third pic.
The '52 "Extra" upper and lower spears are the same pieces as supplied on the '51s.
Wrong! Rarely are we able to remedy our own errors made so long ago. The side spears on '51 and '52 Five Star Extra models are a different length. The '52s needed here are 2Q 16722-A and 2Q 16723-A measuring 22.94" long. The '51 side spears are 1Q 16722 and 1Q 16723 measuring 27.84". If a '51 spear is found it could of course be shortened to match the '52 length. Complicating matters is the fact that the right upper matches the left lower, and vice versa.
Edit - as I ponder this I might also remember a past discussion showing that the formed tips of the respective years are also slightly different shapes.
Also many years ago I bought a stainless hood trim set on eBay. The seller was a bozo and did a horrible job of packing them for shipment. One or two of the side spears were damaged in shipment to my recall. I got my money back but kept them. I'll look to see if one of that set is unhurt and correct for you. It'll be tomorrow. Stu
