I have (my first diesel) a 1999 Ford 250 with the 7.3 PSD. Use it to pull my 5th wheel. Love the 7.3...I have one concern...the tubes going forward from the turbo to what appears to be a seperate cooler in front of the radiator are accumulating oil at the clamp joint of the rubber boot that joins the tubes to the turbo. The drivers side more so than the passenger side. This has been an accumulatiion over time, I bought the unit used with 65000 miles, now has 101,000 miles. Is this a sign of troubles to come ? Thank you.
The 7.3L's have the crank case vent routed into the intake just before the turbo. Crank case gases are pretty oily as the typical 7.3L has quite a bit of blowby, so they get sucked into the intake and spit out the turbo into the intercooler tubes. Over time, some of the oil weeps out, creating a "mist" of oil that collects around the intercooler boots.
Scroll down the forum, and peak into the 99-03 7.3L Diesel section and search for "ccv mod". There are different versions that can reroute or clean up the oil, keeping the boots and engine cleaner. Or you can just leave it as is.
