wicked wheel

i think that the ww will be my next project!, i just have a few questions, are they all created equal? there are so many places that sell them, are any better than others? also i have read a lot of posts and some say to pull the whole turbo, and some say just remove the housing? and do you just use an impact to take the wheel on and off?

thanks

I tink day ar all da same. These guys will give you the low down on the perks to both options. I pulled mine so I could inspect the exaust side and delete my leaking EBPV and replaced my turbo pedestal o-rings and inspect my up-pipes. Just food for thought.

im sure im wrong but i think for the most part they or made by the same co.
i spent the better part of a day changing mine out.
i pulled the bolts and moved the housing aside leaving the waistgate hooked up. dropped the down tube aside, wraped a screwdriver with tape and fouled the exaust turbo wheel. used a socket wrench to remove the inlet wheel.
then installed the ww.
for something i have never seen or worked on it was not to bad a job.
my ribs were sore for days from laying over the radiator all day even with a blanket rolled up over the front end.
all in all it was worth it and would be something i would do if i had another truck.

Technically "Wicked Wheel" is a copyrighted name so that is why you see them under many different names. They are all just 94.5- Early 99 compressor wheels that come stock in those trucks.

When I did my stock turbo I swapped out the wheels with the turbo on the truck. With compressor bolts removed I did the screwdriver trick then installed, no problem, worked out great but after hearing a member here that I know personally bend his exhaust side fins and really ruined his turbo, I think pulling the turbo is the safest bet, plus you can inspect everything in that general vicinity and pedestal for leaks and correct them if nessesary.

New wheel comes already balanced. Some suggest balancing the assembly, and if you have access it doesn't hurt. But I have seen turbos that have gone over 60,000 miles after rebuilding and putting on a 'WW' with no issues so I wouldn't worry about it.
