Is there any difference in the turbo between an early and late '99?? Some reason I thought I remember reading something about there was, but don't remember.
Yea - I think the early '99s basically have a wicked wheel from the factory - but they changed it to cut down on the turbo noise. '99.5 and on have the different wheel and the Wicked Wheel is an upgrade for them.
I can see that being true, compared to a 2002 truck at work, my turbo screams a heck of a lot more than the newer truck. But that reason alone is why I bought my truck, I love the scream of a turbo on a diesel... Ok, it's not the ONLY reason.
Do you have to pull the turbo to change the intake wheel? I want to change mine since it is kind of chewed up from previous owner abuse. I noticed there are a few bolts that hold the cover on, but didn't know if it would clear the valve cover.
I've heard of some guys doing it with the turbo on the truck I hope this is the method that I plan on doing some time but they recommend to take the turbo off the truck and on the bench.
I've read that this cuts down on the "flutter" that I just experienced after putting my Tymar on and climbing some of the passes through OR. I want to know if it's worth it? Does it increase the felt HP?
I just had a Wicked Wheel installed on my 99.5 and it does everything the seller said it would do including eliminateing the turbo surge or flutter. I wish I had done this long ago. Sounds nice and does have more low end power .
