Depends, are you in an area that has smog tests? OR are you asking how physically easy it is, no exhaust shop will do it for legal reasons. Or do you hate kittens?
Sure seems like it would turn on the CEL and show fail status since the downstream oxygen sensors would not be happy.
We live in an emissions test area, and are real careful buying anything used without a very good going over. No CEL on during bulb check, we say sayonara. If ok there, we drive it around a lot to be sure that someone didn't just clear fault status before we got there. We also say goodbye if we see any modifications. For people living in an EPA test area, or who might move to one and take their car or truck along, it's just not worth the hassle. Worked with a guy, very car savvy, who bought a used car to give to his mom. It looked pretty good. But he missed the no CEL on during bulb check. What a nightmare he got into. The car had been monkeyed with big time. Crooks. He ended up scrapping it. An expensive lesson.
Now for my opinion you're better off just leaving it alone or dropping in a high flow CAT if you really want to change it beyond that whats the point to punching them anyway?
