05 SCREW with the 5.4 and 67k. I have never had a single issue with this truck. I just returned from a vacation and drove about 750 miles. The following day we got on the road for the final 250 miles home. I got about 10 miles down the road and the truck went into failsafe mode. I stopped and check all of the fluids. Everything is full, clean and normal. No overheating, new air filter, battery and fuel filter 5k ago. The only thing I can think of is that I was low on fuel, just under 1/4 tank, and I was going up a hill when it entered the failsafe mode, and I was cresting the hilltop. I shut the engine down and re-started it and it continued to run just fine. I stopped to fill the tank and all is still normal. I drove the final 250 miles home and stopped in at the local AZ before getting home and there are no codes stored at all. Can a low fuel condition cause a failsafe mode? I really hate to take it to the dealer if there is nothing wrong. Any Ideas?
this could be of help? copied from one of my other posts... is a very easy check... recently had major stalling, codes and limp mode issues (see other posts to abs) Gave up trying to diagnoss my self as it seemed my truck was posessed and knew I was going to fix it. would be intermitent and throwing different codes all over... Took it to the dealer for the $100.00 diagnosis, mech worked on it for 2 days pulling his hair out... finally getting down to the abs module which is actually the chassis module which also runs through and with all other modules... from "Ford factory" known issue of large connector with gray handle, on top of abs module collects water and causes shorts to the system no recalls or tsb... This is exactly what mine was, the plug cavity on the abs module faces upwards and was full of water and corrosion and didnt seem to have much of a meens of sealing or draining... actually shorted out the module. Awaiting arrival of new one now... recommend checking this plug for dryness and dielectric grease and I will put it in my normal maintenance routine from now on... hope this helps someone.... fyi to remove this plug just pull outward on the gray handle, disengages plug, looks like shiny epoxy in there? use a qtip bet its water... this did thow tps codes, wheel sensor codes, no communication codes, etc... was very frustrating<!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->

I didnt get those at first either... all started with an abs light and progressed over a week... but since water connects all the pins in this connector electrically could cause any one or many wierd symptoms...also couldnt get any codes at first, just a stab...
Golflug...If there are no codes and it doesn't do it again repeatedly, don't sweat it. It's not unusual to for these trucks to "accidentally" go into failsafe or even stall as an isolated occurrence. Sometimes the PCM gets some bad data from sensors and it just happens.
unfortunatly as someone that has turned wrenches for a good part of his life, everytime I drive now I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling and I worry when the next time it may act up. My wife says I just can't let anything go.
I had the same "Limp mode". I threw code P2106 I think it was. I would get it at random times, and would just clear it. And then a while back I couldn't get it to clear. I took it dealer, and I actually had more than just the P2106 code. There are a lot of codes that an Edge, or Auto Zone can't read. Turned out that it was my ABS module, throttle position sensor, and an O2 sensor.
