Ok well not long after i bought my truck i did a tune up including replacing my o2 because it was running rich and getting 10.5 mpg, well after the tune up i bumped up to 12 mpg it held like that for a good while, then i put headers on there and jumped up to like 14 mpg, but i only got 14 mpg for 2 tanks, then rich agin... i was waiting on pay to do anything so i've just put up with it fighting with me and i got money agin and figured my stock replacement wires i did only 2500-3000 miles ago may have got damaged by the heat from my headers, so i just replaced them with some accel high temp wires and i can hear how much it helped just in the pick up in the motor...but the problem, its still rich.. im think coil or cap tomarrow.. any ideas on what it could be??
The standard response is normally; run a KOER self test and see if it will throw any codes. It could be a host of things. But the easiest thing to do is to run a self test and see what comes up, then post your results. Some one will be along to help.
OK well just did cap and rotor since those were good when the tune up was done i thouht they might need a change out and still didnt fix it, pulled a few plugs the ones i pulled were good and the gap was still dead on, i tried to run the self test and no luck, im about to go try to run the one that you have to use the volt ohlm meter, my self test conector had so corrosion in it i dont know if that points to something or not but i sure need to fix this by tomarrow if possible as this is my DD
I'm planning the MAF swap in december cause i'll have the cash and it wont be 105+ degrees outside by then, so i guess i could just put up with it untill then but i only got 11 mpg on my last tank while it was running rich so i really want to fix this so iwill have the cash by then to do the swap as planned...
ok well i think i may have found something, i was running through my haynes manuel and saw something in the tune up section about dirty air filters can cause problems for it so i decided to clean mine and i did, then while ptting it back toget her i saw that the crankcase vent hase had poped off and i inspected it and it had some oil in it, dose that point to pcv? i have a a new pcv i bought the other day to put in my toolbox as a just in case part since it was only like 2 or 3 bucks.. should i go ahead and replace it?
pull codes, running rich should trigger a code to pop. if you think it may be your coil run a test on it, (procedure is in your haynes) also replace fuel filter.
yeah i would start there. i just did this on my 460 and numbers came back all out of wack so replaced it and noticed less rich for a little while. (that motor has more issues than i care to admit, but still plugging through it)
mine isn't running as rich but it still is, while im fixing it might as well get it right.
im seriously starting to think it could be intake gasket, but that'll be fixed when the MAF swap is done..
Usually if the intake gasket is leaking like a vacuum leak it will run lean. My 92 F150 with a 302 was running really rich when I bought it. I replaced a lot of the sensors and kept checking the codes. Not much would come up. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator. That fixed it. It does seem to be a problem with our trucks. Not sure if thats your problem though. Worth a try.
well i just had fuel delivery problems not so long ago and i checked FPR,and sweated my *** off gettin all those preasures right so i dont think its fpr but i'll check it agin
