Another AOD done

Well I did it agine! Been doing some spring cleanning and all that around the place. One truck got totaled this winter so that been getting strippedout. But you all dont what to hear about that.

I took a load of scrap in to the yard today. I was pulling my 18' tandom trailer and had a bunch in the bed of the truck. The truck is a 88 F-150 4X2 W/ a 302 and a AOD Auto adn 35" tires. Well I was over the 2 ton mark at the yard. Comming home the trans has started shifting wrong or strange.

If I am going faster then 40 MPH it will not down shift out of 3rd no matter how far I press on the gas. When it does down shift 4th to 3rd or even 3rd to 2nd it will slip for a sec or two before grabbing.

Now I question is Should I rebuild it agine or can I dump it for a a C6 or something heavyer duty? Dont wish to go stick but I should. I get about 46,000 out of a AOD before it dumps on me. Getting tired of pulling the trans out of the truck.

1/2 ton, 35 in tires, 302, AOD hauling loads like that??? Sounds like you might want to go for a heavier duty truck.

I know they have updated some parts. First one craped out there was a spacer like ( looked like a stamped washer ) that took a crap. Got all rebuilt bigger and better clutch pack, shift kit. Was great. till about 40,000 miles. I think the same part let go. I got a used one and it lasted about 1,000 miles, got yet a nother used one and got about 8,000 out of this one. I was not planning on keeping this truck untill my 86 got totaled. Now they have replaced that washer looking part with a ball bearing.

With rebuilding my F-250 4X4 I dont have the money for a trans rebuild but I need a truck.

when mine went out it blew a whole through the top of the casing but when i went to my transmission guy he let me get another whole casing for like 100 bucks and he built it for like 1500 dollars and it got a new torque coveter, valve body shift kit thing and some other things and so far its doing well but its only got like 4000 miles on it i guess il see what happens in the next 40,000 miles good luck hope u can figure something out
