1986 4.9l timing

Can anyone tell me how to set the timing on a 1986 4.9 with a TFI ignition. initial timing is to be at 10 deg. btc but setting it without the engine running it shows that i'm 180 deg. out of time. can my dist possibly be wrong from the factory???

1986 4.9l timing

No, you just need to turn the crank over once. The camshaft & dist turn at 1/2 the speed of the crank, so you're just on the exhaust stroke instead of compression. Look at the sticker on the core support for the procedure. If it's missing, look here.
