Help, Ive got a floppy stick

Hi Guys, My NP435 has a really floppy stick in the side to side plane, the fore and aft shift is tight and crisp like it should be but the side to side is hopeless, making it quite hard to get a gear especially when going 4th to third or 2nd to third. Anyone know what it might be and how to fix it? I don't want to pull the carpet and trans cover if it isn't going to be something I can't fix easily as I don't want to be left without the truck, if it is going to be something quite involved I'd get the parts before I pull it apart.

The stick and the notches it goes into are probably worn, while the shift rails are still good.

See the blow up. Maybe a new stick will take care of part of it, but w/o a tear down, how will you know if the other parts are bad too?
