Ok that makes sense. In neutral or park it is still circulating oil but not generating much heat. I will look into the fan idea. I would have to mount the trans cooler in front of the AC condensor for sure if I did that. If I reved the motor a little in P or N that would help move some air as well.
Is there any danger of overcooling the transmission in the winter?
Well I put the thing on the Excursion tonight. I don't quite have all the hoses hooked up yet but it fit right in where the old one came out. The biggest pain was all those plastic mushroom connectors that hold all the baffles in place and especially the tinnerman nuts that held the cooler. I don't think overcooling is too much of an issue in Alabama but I will get a Scanguage just to make sure. How cool is too cool. The cooler I used is the 26 row cooler.
Word of wisdom. If you upgrade your cooler to a 6.0L cooler don't keep the factory pigtail on one side. Replace the hose and put a real screw type hose clamp on both ends of the cooler. Mine was leaking this morning when I got to work where the factory pigtail connected to the right side of the cooler. You would think the factory connection would not leak. I had to remove the lower bumper thing this morning at work and put another hose clamp on the cooler.
Hi,i have a 1995psd, my son's brother helped him put a trans. tempature gauge and that's when
we found out that the truck had been running up to 240 degrees for years and when it got
up there it would not come down so we added a large cooler from Shuck's now the temp's
are down to 180 degrees and stay there.
