I went to go get a front brake line from my local auto parts store and when i showed him my old line he told me the person who did the job before me didnt use the right fittings and that i would have to replace all of my lines.
So now i am trying to figure out what exactly needs replaced and how i am going to go about doing this. I know the front line needs replaced and i plan on doing that.
My question is, how is the front brake line supposed to be routed? If the guy before me ghetto rigged it then i cant trust that it is routed correctly.
Also i want to know if any of the other parts of the braking system have been tampered with.
Here are some pics.
In this pic you can see the master cylinder on the top right, the line that is exposed with the gold fitting is the front line which im going to replace. Does this all look factory?
Here is how the front brake line was routed by the previous owner. The blue line i drew shows how he had it routed. The brown circle is where the fitting was connected that i was told was not correct for brake lines. Is this how the factory brake line is routed?? If its not right, then how should it be done?
This is the front brake line coming from the master cylinder. The previous owner had this line routed down into the drivers side brake house bracket. Is this correct?
Thanks alot for the help, i have never done brake lines so i would like to get good advise and do this right.
From what I can see in your Pictures. Everything looks good but that Gold ( Brass ) fitting in your first Pic. there. That is a compression fitting and NOT a flare fitting. You will need to remove that line with the compression fitting and replace the whole line. Try to get it in one piece. That way you will not have a coupling in the middle .. like the one line out of the master Cylinder there. Brake lines use a double flare on the ends, GM uses bubble flares on there stuff. Unless you have a double flare tool you will NOT be able to splice that shirt line you have going under the motor there. As I said I would just remove that line and replace the whole line. The rest look ok to me. Looks like every things been replaced but the line from the master cylinder to the ABS unit and the short line to the drives side front wheel.
Well i am still working the brakes. The front hoses and line worked fine but when i put in fluid and pumped the brakes another line blew so im going to go ahead and replace them all while im at it.
Everything is done besides these last lines, One of them goes from the back of the master cylinder into the side of this brass piece and the other goes from the other side of the the brass to the abs unit.
I cant get these lines off because they are stripped out pretty bad and i cant seem to get the brass unit off either.
What exactly is this brass piece? I have it circled in the pic below. Can i just bypass it? If not how can get the old lines off to replace them?
Thats kind of odd to me there. However I do not know what year your truck is. Looks to be a 87- 90 with that line set up but I could be wrong. What I see kind of worries me a little. That brass T is normally the Tee for the front brake lines. your line out of the master comes down goes one, a small line goes around and through the frame to the drivers side, then the other spot is for the line to the passenger side. In 90, 91 the F250 and 350's got the brass T removed and it got placed on the drivers flex hose ( what you have now ) the rear line just went down to the ABS unit from the master cylinder. Is there another port on that brass T looking thing.
Small hint for brake lines ** cut the line right behind the fitting then use a 6 point socket and ratchet on them. If real bad I have had to use a small to med. pipe wrench to get the fittings out. ** Chances are the brass T is fine once you remove the old lines.

The truck is a 93 f150.
Yes there is another port open on the left bottom side of the Brass T fitting. Could i just bypass this T fitting and route the line directly from the master cylinder to the abs unit? Thanks for the hint.
Sorry was posting on this earlier however my power went out >.< Yes you should be able to just bypass the brass T. That is how they were set up in the 87 - 91 years. Line right from master cylinder to ABS unit.
