Well I got my rear drums off and they are in good shape. The shoes aren't worn completely down, but they have turned to putty from being soaked with brake fluid. I can scrape bug wads of friction material off of the shoes with a fingernail. I picked up a new set of shoes, 2 new wheel cylinders and some brake kleen. I'm planning to clean, soak, and reuse the hardware. I will post up when I'm done. Then I will tear into the front brakes. I noticed yesterday that one of the rotors has 3 big cracks in it! I drove this thing 140 miles at 75 mph like this! I got lucky I guess.
you'll just have to inspect the self adjusters and stuff.make sure they all look good and work free.
yeah, one of my rotors cracked too so i replaced both.old metal and new heat don't mix i guess lol.
good time to replace all the brake line while your doing it.it doesn't cost much doing it yourself, but it all takes time.
sure beats chasing leaks latter or blowing a line when your trying to stop and get stranded......or worse.
I will check the wheel seals, I may need to replace them while I'm ion there. I'm going to order the rubber line for the rear axle but I'm not planning to replace the metal lines.
Yes you need that socket, but you may be able to get it through a loan a tool or rental from some of the parts places. I think when I bought mine it was was about $25 though, and something you may need again sometime.
