WTS light...no start

Ok I have been having this problem for 4 weeks now. My truck will not start unless the wait to start light comes on. I've checked all fuses and replaced relays and it still does not work. The WTS light comes on when it wants and fires up every time it's on. Never had a problem driving down the road and it shut off or anything like that. Im thinking i have a short or maybe a ignition switch is bad???? It's driving me crazy and im about to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer. I'd rather figure it out myself though to save some money.

Any ideas????

When it acts up try wiggling the fuse for the fuel bowl heater/pcm. You could also try swapping the pcm relay with the blower motor relay. Normally no wait to start light is caused by the fuel bowl heater shorting out and taking out the fuse that also powers the pcm. But yours is intermittent. Kind of sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere which can be a pain to find.

Sounds like failing PCM, or relay, like was said or chaffed wire maybe?

I agree, time to start looking at it when the light is not on.

I've been playing with pcm fuse under the dash its a 30A fuse and think its location is 30 or 32 ish on the fuse box. I've been wiggling it when the light doesnt come on and turn the key back off then back on and the light is on. But yesterday the light didnt come on at all, played with that fuse and pulled it out and put it back in still nothing. this morning it came on first try and its still working now. so i dont know at this point but i will keep checking and playing with things when it doesnt come on.

thanks guys

When the light doesn't come on, quickly listen to see if the fuel pump is humming. Fuel pump is on the frame under the driver seat. It should come on for 25 - 30 seconds after the key is turned on.

Then, leave the key on and start wiggling wires under the hood, then under the dash, then shift the gear selector and play with the tilt steering. Be sure to check the WTS light or listen for the fuel pump after each harness. (a helper to watch the light would come in handy).

The common cause of the no WTS light is a shorted fuel bowl heater. I'd start by wiggling the wire to the fuel bowl heater, then just go ahead and disconnect it. Drive around for a few days with the heater disconnected and see if that helps your issue. Keep in mind that the heater is tied to fuse #30, so after you wiggle the wires check that fuse to make sure a short didn't blow the fuse.

Do you have a chip in the PCM?

That sounds like a chip problem when the PCM is booting up. I have run into those same exact problems with an improperly programmed chip (6 position TS with less than all 6 positions filled).

Otherwise, the PCM is likely on it's way out due to boot issues.

I thought it was the opposite Cody? WTS light stayed on and didn't cut off with the boot error. I thought that was the problem you helped me chase before.

Nah, if the PCM doesn't boot, the WTS light will flash on quickly and go out instantly.
