Engine Decals: 1955-56
I'm trying to find info or pictures on the placement of the "I-6" decal on the valve cover for the '55 / '56 223 F-100's.
I think the earlier 223's had a "cost-clipper" or "mileage-maker" decal. Might as well bring it up, as I sure someone else will want to know.
I've seen lots of discussion re paint colors, but not one mention of decals or placement. I do know that '55 was the last year for metal tags on the accessories (starter/generator); '56 had decals.
Thanks,
Jim
I'm thinking It goes like this:

...but I'd like to know for sure.
Side-note: Is his valve cover on backwards or off something else ??? I'm pretty sure my fill hole is in front of the first bolt.

First, I learn that IS the normal valve cover for an early 215 shown in the first pic.
Second, the dig:
There are straight lines in the gunk and the paint in this area appears blotchy, like decal stickum residue. These SEEM to indicate my WAG (Wild But Guess) was correct and they used the same location right behind the first acorn nut. Again, I'm going to AssUMe that it faces forward like the 215.
I could REALLY use a picture, or even some Yea or Nay opinions. My '56 isn't a restoration, but my neighbor's 30k original-mile '55 is!
Please Help !!
Jim
