I want to run a large air compressor for my large penumatic pump for work, some options:
1)10+ CFM @ 90 psi Gas powered (~$1000)
2)2 Large cheap eBay inverters ($800)
240v 10+ CFM @ 90 psi compressor ($800)
Total of about $1600
3)7.1 CFM @ 90 psi 110v portable air compressor $600
Large cheap eBay 8000w inverter $400
Total of about $1000
I would rather electric, but I am not sure how the inverters would drain my batteries. I have a 200 amp alternator installed which should help. Has anyone used a large inverter to run big stuff like this? Anyone permanently mount the air compressor?
You will have to fill the entire bed of the truck just have enough batteries to support that much load. You would be far better off going with the gas powered compressor.
Locked rotor currents to start a compressor would smoke the inverter in no time. Inverters were just not designed to deal with that kind of abuse.
