So I did a search and haven't come up with anything yet, but I have had an idea bouncing around my head the last few weeks.
First off, I own a 2002 F-350 V-10 with the 4 spd. automatic that I think you guys are calling the 4R100 and the truck and tranny are running great with 104,000 miles on the clock.
My question is, seeing as the V-10s upgraded to the Torqueshift 5 spd auto in '05, Is it possible to upgrade from a 4R100 to a torqueshift on a 2002 V-10? Has anyone even thought about this as a possible upgrade? What was changed in the way of integration when the V-10 switched in '05 and could one of these be retrofitted to work in an 02?
Like I say, for the moment my tranny as well as the rest of my truck is doing good, but this is just something I was curious about for future reference.
It definitely has been wished for. Never done that I am aware of, although never say never when money is no object.
Your main problem is programming. Since the Torqshift is all electronic, and the TCM has to communicate with the PCM, it would take code level programming to accomplish.
There is a standalone controller available for the TorqShift, and you'd need a manual-tranny PCM for the V10, but ... that's some $'s by the time you're done.
Might be easier to get into a 2005+ V10-equipped truck
