CD Problems-stuck on initialize then flips to DVD

I have a problem with my CD player I'm hoping someone here can help with. It's a 2005 factory head unit with the Rear seat DVD system. When you select CD on the head unit, it states "initializing" for 5 seconds or so, then just switches over to DVD. I can't do anything with the CD player, including getting my CD's out (when I press eject the same thing happens). I have tried unplugging all of the connections on the back of the head unit, and also disconnecting the battery ground for a few minutes to see if the radio will reset itself, but no luck. Can this problem be fixed? Can I get my CDs out? My Chilliwack CD is being held hostage!
