After reading several posts I purchased a pack of test strips to check for any contamination in the coolant (i.e. any signs head gasket failure). Everything checked out good - whew.
Anyone know off hand what to look for - Hi / Low PH or Alk would show signs of leak or failure ?
none of the above including the "test strips" will tell you you have a headgasket failer.
I failed egr cooler will produce the exact same results as a failed set of headbolts or gaskets.
if you find hi/low ph or alk coolant then its time for maintace no more no less to be found there.
a quick test on the alk issue can be done with a volt meter. stick the red probe in the tank and the black probe to B- and it should be less then .3v
to test for headgaskets you would look at eot/ect cooling system pressures.
see tsb 09-08-03 for all the info related to such.
