I would sure check the timing.
Slow timing will definitely make it ron hot.
Can you find out what the total timing should be at load and check that?
If it has an advance the initial timing could be set right but not advancing.

It has no advance, and I advanced it until it kicked on the starter then backed off a little bit.

Are you sure there is not a mechanical advance in the base of the dist.
A set of weights under the plate the points set on.

Well, I will have to look again, but I think i figured it out.. There is a valve on the inside of the compressor that was open and letting a lot of air out. I think it is there to bleed the pressure off before you shut it off. I shut it and it built pressure quicker and ran slower. It ran 220-225 the whole time and was not boiling over. That is a little warm for my liking, but it is 95 degrees here. Thanks for all the help!!

Sure sounds like combustion gasses getting into the cooling system. Could be a cracked head or block.

I don't think that will cause overheating. That compressor is designed to run wide open all day w/o overheating. There is still something wrong and since combustion gasses in radiator is the only thing we havn't checked I'll bet thats it.

Is the T stat still in the engine? With a T stat removed it can run hot or even overheat. The coolant travels to fast through the block and can not pick up any heat.It also travel through the rad to fast and can not get rid of the heat.

So now that you have it so that it won’t boil, I would put some tape over the temp gauge glass.

Yea, I felt stupid, but I was so happy to figure it out!! I do have it setting level, and the thermostat is out of it. Also it was probably running 220 ish because it was 95 degrees here and its blowing hot air from the oil cooler through it.
