For Justin: Pretty ugly huh, We cut out all of the floor up to the seam, then welded the replacement pan in. I had to fabricate a plate for the vertical sides so there would be metal there instead of air.
Once the pan was in I used a piece of 1 1/2 flat bar and bent to conform to the bottom of the floor. That gave the floor pan something to be welded to (kinda where your feet would go). If you lookat the cab on its back you will see the plates installed. This was one of those things we had to just make it happen.
Thank god for spray undercoating so I could hide all of my beautiful welding.
I like your pillar speakers, and the headliner came out great too! You are also lucky to have the older cab trim which is chrome instead of the woodgrain. I hate the woodgrain in my 78, and miss my 74 for that reason.
Things have been moving really slow lately. Got the remaining driveline stuff home and have been having @#$% time getting things buttoned up. Seems like I can work on 10 things in a day but finish nothing.
I had most of the brackets for the 460 but I am going to have a few electrical challenges along with a possible hydroboost install.
Major problem is the trans crossmember. I originally wanted to use a married transfer case but with the headache with making a crossmember, i'm going to go back to the divorced transfer case.
bravo on the excellent work!!
gotta say aside frome the color and rust it looks like we are living a parallel life
and have to agree with you I can work on ten things and not finish one of them fully, I either run into a cant install this because I dont have that ready or forgot where the hell I put the next part and the never ending gotta run up to the parts store!!!!
I have a 76 camper special chassis all restored but frame rail are 34" instead of 37" can i modify a regular cab to fit the frame ? ANY HELP is appreciated. Ray
Ragens... no sweat. the highboy frame is narrower 34" than my original cab. Which is 37".The front cab mounts lined right up for me and will have to drill new holes in transfercase crossmember.
You may have to add the rear cab mounts that mount to the side of the frame depending on cab. (I think that's right)
Had to take the transfer case and trans back out. You'll notice the short tailshaft housing on the trans which is for the NP 203. The 205 is just too close and the output shaft is real close to the bottom of tranny.
I figured about 20 degree angle to the front axle so I'm gonna have to take apart tranny and put in the longer tailshaft and housing. DANG. At least the angle wont be so severe. Even if it is a little bit.
Good part is I got to move the cab into place to make sure my trans cm was the right height. Sure did look sweet setin there. Now I can see why the term "highboy"
Thanks for the info. If I can get my wife to post pics you will see my project keep us updated youre ambition is helping us to start or finish ours I live in RI so so I usually fix what I break because of the weather this time of year
Got to put the cab in place. Now that was EXCITING. Then took it right back off. Have since rethought the CM problem and have the trans back out to install the proper adapter for the 205 transfer case.
Also having major issues with L&L headers and orderd die to rethread the drag link. That needs to be about an inch longer so I'm trying to wrap that part up.
Put on Rockstars and 35 inch BFG KM II's. I'm not totally sold on the wheels. Kinda blingy for my style but they are growing on me. This also made a huge diff in frame height and lets just say I was really happy how she sets.
