Oreo, my steering damper has a "loop" on both ends, as both the frame and tie-rod brackets have studs welded on them. This is factory '92 2wd brackets with a factory-replacement 2000 4x4 damper element...
IIRC the F-Superduty trucks use one stud end as well, on the axle side. My old '70s 4x4 had a factory damper that used stud ends on both sides... Guess it really could be anything.
