1997 Ford Explorer 4.0L SOHC timing problem

So I recently replaced the timing chain tensioner on my 97 explorer. It stopped running about 4 years ago and since I'm in college I really didn't have enough time to fix it till now. So what I thought the problem was, is that the timing chain had hopped a tooth or two on the sprocket since the guide had been broken for some time (chain was slapping around) and it finally broke down going over some railroad tracks. So I replaced the guide and moved the chain over 2 teeth (I matched the TDC of the cam gear with the valves). Now my explorer starts but it just runs **** poor. It backfires a bunch (exhaust side) when giving it gas and sometimes backfires out of the intake when cranking. It idles very rough and when driving there is absolutely no power. Moving the chain on the sprocket definitely helped since now it starts but now it just runs really bad. Does anyone have pictures of the markings on the timing gears that you are supposed to line up? I'm not sure if the chain is in the right position on the sprockets or not. Thanks
