Question New member questions

Hi All!
Just purchased a black 2002 Explorer XLT. I have the ever popular door ajar light stays on problem which I think I can fix, thanks to this forum! And sometimes the back-up warning works and then doesn't?
When the truck is running I hear a low clicking sound coming from the rear driver side under the interior cover. Fuel pump noise? There is a wire with a connector dangling in the glove box. Light connection? No light housing. What do you guys use on the plastic body panels and bumpers to restore them? Great forum! Thanks all! JP

Welcome to the forum...

Key description is "BLACK", had you bought any other colour you would not have had these issues....

Does your Explorer have the rear HVAC system? If so, there is an actuator in the area you describe that is prone to making noise. Since my Mountaineer does not have the rear controls, I haven't spent much time studying the source or how to fix it, but others on this forum will chime in or you can search the forum.

How many terminal locations are in the connector dangling in the glove box, and how many of those terminal locations are populated with wires? Is the connector body black, gray, or off-white? It could be the trailer wiring connector which is normally taped up behind the glove box.

By plastic body panels are you referring to body colored panels or flat black panels? Are you just trying to remove scratches and oxidation from them? If body color and you're just trying to get them to shine, you can use the same products on them that you would use on the painted metal panels.

Questions

Thanks Rod,

Yes it has rear HVAC. That's what I thought was making the noise. The connector in the glove box is sort of red/burgundy. Only one that I can see.

Great, did it end up being a dirty switch in one of the door latches, probably the driver's door?

Door Ajar Switch

Rod,

It was the switch on driver's side. When I removed it there was resistance when pushing the pin in. So I guess the whole switch was shot. Thanks for your help!
