18 spline axles
How is it possible that anyone could answer this question? If you don't list the pertinent details, no one can help you.
What year is (I assume) the truck...which series...which rear axle?
There are 1000's of listings for axle shafts in Ford Car/Truck Parts Catalogs. If the vehicle cannot be pinned down specifically, it would take hours upon hours of searching for the axle shaft, and there could be more than one.
Who...in their right mind would go thru the trouble of searching thru TWELVE different car parts catalogs, ELEVEN different truck parts catalogs that cover 1948/2010 looking for a 19 spline axle shaft?
AB4234B .. Axle Shaft 17 splines / Fits: 1949/55 Ford Passenger Cars except 1952/55 Couriers, Station Wagons and 1955 Thunderbirds.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AB4234E .. Axle Shaft 19 splines / 27 31/32" long from the inside of the flange to the splined end / Fits: 1952/56: Couriers, Station Wagons & 1955/56 Thunderbirds.
This is the only 19 spline axle shaft listed in the 1949/59 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog.
CARPENTER OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has FOUR = 704-786-8139.
Believe it or not, the axle i am looking for is not in a car, nor a truck nor a street rod.....it is in a horse hot walker. The entire differential is welded into a steel frame with one end on the ground and the other end straight up in the air. An electric motor turns the gears and 4 -20 foot long arms are attached to the top...and go round in a circle like a carnival ride.
Anyway the axle splines are all chewed up as is the pinion gear. But there was no identification on the differential anywhere. It is a front loader and looks like a Ford 8, but it is not. I now think it is a 49-53 Ford car, with 17 spline axles. I have found one in a junk lot but haven't been able to get it here and apart yet.
I'm concerned about the length of the axle but won't know for sure until I get it the salvage unit apart. Old axle is 30 " inside of flange to end of axle. Bolt pattern measures about 5 on 4.75 on the old axle. Axle is roughly 1 and 1/8" dia.
Wish me luck. It is hard to train race horses without a hot walker.
Means some human being gets to take lots of long hot walks.
Again, many many thanks for giving me a direction to look.

1949/56 Ford Couriers (sedan deliveries) and Ford/Mercury station wagons have 5 lug 15 or 16" wheels on a 5.00" bolt circle pattern.
1949/56 Ford/Mercury passenger cars except...as noted above...have 5 lug 15 or 16" wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle pattern.
9" rear axle introduced 1957, 8" rear axle introduced 1962. Neither has an inspection cover.
Look on the ring gear for an ID number, post what it is. Post any other numbers/letters you find on the ring gear...I can decode all of it.
How far are you from Cincinnati? Obsolete parts vendor Green Sales Co. in located there and has the largest stock of obsolete parts in the world, a knowledgeable staff, and may be able to ID the axle, ring & pinion if you take it there.

btw: There are no 17, 18 or 19" spline 8" axle shafts listed from 1962 thru 1972 in the 1960/64 & 1965/72 Ford passenger car parts catalogs.
One of my family members raises Morgan horses, another (now as dead as Julius Caesar) was one of the first to import Arabian horses into the US. I personally know less about horses than a mule knows about tap dancing!

>I am baffled. I bought an old axle from a 53 ford car. 17 spline axles , but the axles are too short. And the 3rd member, is much smaller than the pumpkin from the horse walker. I can not find many numbers on the axle from the horse walker . But like you said there are numbers all over the old ford car axle I bought.

>The horse walker ring gear and pinion count is 11/ 37. The spider gears seem to be 15 teeth and the side gears are 10 teeth I think. The only numbers on the ring gear of the horse walker are a stamped “ BJ” . Maybe the numbers are under the surface bolted down? There are a few casting numbers on the carrier the ring gear s bolted to. It is stamped or casted, ARMA STEEL and 75803 and a big 9. The carrier housing has a big casting clock in the casting.

>Interestingly I do not find the ford name or logo on any of the castings from the horse walker but they are on every piece of the old 53 ford axle that does not fit.

>I really am baffled. The 17 spline axles fit the spider gears perfectly but are too short.
The axle retainer plates are ford ford ford.
The axle bearings are big 2.87 In but I think that is the old big ford bearing.
