Excursion axle shafts

Anyone know a good place to order front axle shafts for a Ford Excursion? Every auto parts store has Dorman axle shafts for the D60 axle listed as Excursion axle shafts. They aren't correct. Ask me how I know.

Even the Ford parts website has the 35 spline axle shafts listed as being for the Excursion, even though it takes a 30 spline axle.

How many splines on the inner shaft? Dana spicer makes axles for most pickup trucks on up to big rigs.

Ford truck, international motor, dana spicer drive train.

If you don't know how many splines are on the inner shaft you'd be better off calling spicer to try to get a p/n. Calling ford will be pretty much useless as their parts ppl aren't very good at being parts guys and using their resources.

30 splines on the inner and outer shaft. Everyone lists the 35 spline inner shaft for the D60 axle as being the correct complete axleshaft for the Excursion. Which it definitely isn't, I unfortunately know.

Ok so heres what I've come up with. (yes it did take more than 30 secs ) Your axle is not a dana 60, its a dana 50. Hence why everyone is telling you 35 splines, they are correct, dana 60 uses 35 splines. Externally, the d50 looks almost exactly like the d60, however, the d50 axle shaft splines and internal differential components are substantially smaller. Dana 50 inner axle shafts are 1-5/16" x 30 spline. Dana 60 inner axle shafts are 1-1/2" x 35 spline.

Furthermore, the Dana 50 monobeam front axle was only used in 1999-2005 Ford full size 4x4s. It was the stock axle in F350 Single Rear Wheel and F250 Super Duty 4x4s from 1999 to early 2002 when it was replaced by a heavier Dana 60 axle. The Dana 50 monobeam was the ONLY axle used in the 2000-2005 Excursion.

I found a master seal kit for $140 on ebay...
FORD SUPER DUTY F250 F350 DANA 50 FRONT OUTER AXLE SHAFT MASTER SEAL KIT

As for the axle assemblies themselves, I seen a plethora of axle suppliers on the net and that requires tons and tons of searching if you are looking for new stuff.

I ran across some used ones on ebay doing a quick search, they seemed pretty cheap if you dont mind used...

Good luck hope this helps

Dude, thanks very much for all your effort! Yep, I should've mentioned the Excursion axle was a Dana 50...which is why I'm having issues. Even the a couple Ford dealers were trying to convince me to order 2005 F350 axles...which even say in the description that they are for the D60!

I had found those used axles last night and got all excited...until I realized they were not the same lengths and are actually for an even older truck, from early 80's to early 90's. And has a different spline count. And...

So I ended up ordering from a Ford dealer that we spent about an hour cross referencing part numbers to make 99%...well, I should probably say 80%...sure we ordered the right axle

The people at Summit are good and I would talk to someone on the phone
before making that order. That way you know that they are on the same page as you.

BTW what happened that you need to replace them?

Summit has the Dorman 630-434 (and which Dorman has listed as the Excursion axle on their website) listed for the Excursion. Unfortunately that's the D60 axle shaft.

The reason...well, reasons...I need to replace both inner and outer is two-fold:

The @&$#ing $15 axle support needle bearing in the hub went bad and scored up the outer shaft before I locked the hubs to prevent that from happening. While going in to take everything apart to do the Dynatrac balljoints we noticed that at some point something had somehow put a gouge in the inner shaft right where it is next to the axle seal. It was barely touching and fraying the lip of the seal, but I'm not taking any chances.

Yep. $506 plus tax Fortunately the driver's side is still like new, so only have to replace passenger side.

Although part of me says replace both and keep driver's as a spare...

Glad you got the right part ordered! Ouch! That's an expensive shaft! Then again there is no such thing as cheap parts when there's a diesel under the hood

I have a place that likely can get the right parts if you till want to go that route.
You will need to call and talk to them so that they know what you want.

Ask for Scott. he can get you the right parts or point you to the person that can.
This is the place I send anyone local that is having problems. They sell Spicer
not Dorman.

Yep, not cheap! At one point I was so frustrated (front end has been apart and back together twice due to first doing balljoints and finding axle problem, then taking front end apart only to find axles were wrong, so it's going to have to come apart...again. And each time requires new EXPENSIVE seals...) that I almost considered going deep into my credit card and just upgrading to a Dana 60 assembly

But now just going sort of half hog...decided to replace both axle sides and keep driver's side used axle as a spare
