diffrent drv shaft combos
I have solved my issue with the shaking/bump, what ever ya wanna call it, at 32 mph through 34 mph, then again at 54mph.
I have a 2000 SD 4X4 v10. we removed the drive shaft, and drive the truck in 4 wheel drv and it was smooth as silk.
so it looks like at some point the ujoints were replaced. what were thinking is the drv shaft was NOT installed correctly,
with the carrier berring in the middle, how many diffrent combo's are there to switch the drv shaft around untill we find the correct position it should be in?
Thanks
Usually, the driveshaft is neutral balanced. So it really doesn't matter which way it is put back in. Service manuals usually say "mark it and put it back the way it was" just so that it's at least the same as before you took it apart. But I've found in reality that it just doesn't matter a whole bunch.
You MIGHT have a angle problem. Is the truck lifted at all? You might need to shim the carrier bearing either way.
the ujoints have greese fittings is why we think they have been replaced. and also I have herd of them not being in the correct postion. havent looked at that yet.
everything looks great under there, no clean marks where the drv shift may have been slipping or under any hard driving.
while at the shop we turned the front shaft 1/2 round. didn't work. I'm thinking that if I remove the front. turn it back where it was then turn the rear that's the only combos avaliable.....RIGHT ?
were in the country so taking it to have it balanced would cost me 2 days and a hotel.
any other ideals....
