yup that CA emmsioions package is in the pcm.
changing emmisons from green state (ca) to 50 state or fedral is emmision's tampering.
it does not matter were you live, only were the truck was sold.
I checked the CAC boots yesterday. I looked at them all around with a mirrow. Pulled the air cleaner to check the boot under it. Moved the wire rings around on the boots and looked in those areas for cracks. Everthing looked ok, no holes or cracks. I fondled them and didn't feel anything. The truck liked it, my hands just got dirty. Put the air cleaner back it and started the EX up. I fondled the 3 boots I could get to for leaks. no signs of any.
I am going the call the local dealer tomorrow about getting a reflash done. Anything special I should ask for, tell them, or know???
no nothing there will be only one reflash available. we ndont get to pick and choose.
sorry I really cant offer more help on this one at this time. The ca emmisions is rough with the p0401, p0404 codes. if the reflash failes you will more then likly wind up having to smoke test the intake and exhaust systems.
I've got a reocurring p0401 code that didn't start till I got the latest flash - just a coincidence ? - but I can not find any leaks & my ficm voltage is good also
I also have a CA emissions vehicle. After I got the egr delete done, the PCM would constantly throw the p0401 and the P0404 codes. although this is to be expected with no egr, I got an SCT X3 tuner with three custom tunes all of which would block the PCM from turning on the CEL. Yes, it still throws the P0401 code but there is no CEL. Now this is just a suggestion. If the truck has no driveability issues then maybe a tuner would help.
I was about to start a thread when I saw this one,my truck is an 03 ,ca emission, stock engine except 4" exhaust. When I tow my boat,6k#,or my trailer,8k# I will usually get a cel come up,p0401,there are no performance issues ,just the light.I was told by dealer the 4" exhaust on the ca truck triggers the cel .I clear the code with an AE or just drive it and light goes out within a week.I just went on a trip to fish and got a cel come on,this time I got p0401 EGR insufficient flow, and p006a unsupported code, and p132b turbo boost control A performance.Again truck ran good no towing performance issues.Nuisance or not ? Sorry to hijack, saving forum space,
Oh forgot to mention I dont have an o-ring in my ccv elbow either ,no wonder I get little oil leak there, will be looking into that asap

Making smoke is not a problem. I am guessing the smoke goes in to the intake? and I am looking for leaks at the gaskets?
The Excursion has had 2 new intakes and the gaskets replace at least once more. Are the early engines more prone to this problem? Could the "0" shaped intake warp and not seal after time. Do the "U" shaped intakes have as much problem with leaking?
The P0401 code is for emissions, is it something I need to worry about?
If you have a recurring PO401 code you might a stealth egr delete in and not know it unless you take the clamp off the up pipe to the egr cooler and see if it is welded shut. If so, the only way to get rid of it is with a tuner or a upgraded egr cooler. Ask me how I know
