i have a 94 f-150 that wont start or if i can get it to start it wont stay running(almost like its not getting fuel), started with replacing the plugs, wires, distributor cap, its getting fuel i checked that. it seemed to have worked, the truck was starting and running for a few days, but then did it again and left me stranded at work.
I had a diagnostic done and the computer did not read anything at all, it actually would not even read the trucks computer, as if it was not connected at all, they said i had a bad computer,
kept trying it would not start, then i replaced the ignition key lock and switch, it started fine and i drove it all that day, the next morning it did it again, next i was going to replace the o2 sensor and IAK just to see if that works before i tear out the comp, but if it is the computer... i dont see how i was able to drive it around a couple of days at a time, so i dont know what to do
Actually I had a bad ECU and it let me drive it fine somedays and
then bam it would idle extremely rough i mean i had tremendous amount of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Then my mechanic checked the ECU and it didnt read it. I replaced the ECU and its been working fine up until now.
There are two common ways a ECU gets shot.
1. By jump starting another vehicle. (believe it or not)
2. If your in a rainy area or wash your truck alot water might
enter and damage the ECU.
yea i live in fl and its the rainy season, its been storming like crazy for months... and i think that is when my problem started... someone had mentioned that to me before but everyones been saying one thing or another its frustrating...but it has not had any smoke come out, it just runs or it doesnt run, for example last night it started fine, i sat in my driveway letting it idle for 15min just to be sure, as soon as i felt it was safe to go i put in in reverse and it died .....
Ya well I didn't always have smoke coming out but like you said it would be idling fine and you were like "yes " and then you try to drive it and it dies... :/
Ya my ECU got shot when hurricane Dolly struck us here in TX.
ok thanks... i was hoping that wasn't it lol... it just been one problem after another with this truck... and after i get it running again its going to need a new tranny ...
the guy said hes positive he checked all the grounds and stuff, but then somone else said the they found a loose ground fixed it and it ran fine for 3 days then did it again... so i dont know, he refuses to hook it up again when i aked him he took it as an insult... i will have to take it somewere else
