Working on 1989 f350 7.3.
Replaced fuel injectors and lines from injector pump. Injectors are from NAPA and lines from FORD.
The darn lines keep leaking, #2 and #8 both on driver side, have replace lines 3 times now and after a week they start leaking again.
Have not over tighten them, even replace injectors again thinking there was something wrong with them, but they still leak
HELP I'M GOING NUTS WITH THIS TRUCK
Did you install a new return line kit ? New Tees and O-rings? and did you lube the O-rings with vaseline? Your injectors are probably fine, concentrate on the return lines,,,not the fuel lines BTW welcome to FTE!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont go nuts...we got enough of those around here already
Do the lines have the rubber and steel clamps to hold them together? If not, it's common for vibration to crack the pressure lines going to the injectors.
take those lines off, check the flare on them and check where they seat on the injector. theres a chance the top of the injector is cracked or pitted causing fuel to leak. fuel molecules are much smaller then almost any other liquid. especially water. they can find a leak anywhere
I know they are new lines, but if none of the mounting clamps went back on, they could crack, and if they are not supported at all, it may not take long. Friend of mine put new lines on his Mack a couple years ago, missed a clamp when re-installing them, and the one line cracked about three weeks later.
Oreo's advice about a close inspection of the injectors in question is also a good one. Are these new injectors, or rebuilt? If they are rebuilt, there is an increased chance of damage at the seating area for the line too. (Heck, there is on new ones, but there should be a lot lower chance of issues!)
all of my injector lines i've had to buy came from Italy. cheaper than Ford and no problems with them, will have to look for receict to find company name.
Does anyone know what size the injection lines are for the 7.3 international the steel lines keep cracking. I have high pressure copper line but have no clue on the size
Do you have the Injector line clamps in place? If not the lines will vibrate and crack.
The steel lines come pre formed between the IP and Injectors.
You can not just use copper line to replace the steel lines. These steel
lines are under very high pressure.
Yes I have all 3 clamps. I have replaced the injection lines I was told by diesel shop I could replace the steel with copper all I need to know is size of injection line and the amount of pressure now
over 3000 psi. copper will not work, you need the steel lines
While I'll agree on generally needing the steel lines... Pop pressure is 1800 nominal on these injectors. Call it 2000 for 'peak'... that's still less than 3000.
Worn injectors can easily be in the 1,000-1400 range.
