Has anyone ever swaped an np435 transmition to a c-6? Is this hard? I already have an automatic steering column with tilt. I was just wondering how expensive and hard this project would be. This is in a 76 highboy. It has a divorced t-case(np205), a 360 and like I said a 435. The reason I am considering the swap is because I do a lot of towing and plowing. Shifting gets old after a while and centerforce clutches are expensive. I am in the middle of a 390 upgrade and wanna know how this setup would work. Is a c-6 suitable for 5th wheel towing and plowing or am I on the wrong track compleetly? I like the low gears but kinda miss the autos.
Shouldnt be that hard, diferent Driveshaft, Spedo Cable, Crossmember, Steering coulmn, and the linkages, but you said youve got the last two..
dont suppose you wanna sell that 4spd eh?hehe Gotta nice C6 for a FE ill trade ya =)
I've done this swap on my 74 highboy F250 back and forth a couple of times. You'll need a radiator with a cooler or an afermarket cooler. Easiest to use a C6 with short tail and bolt on yoke. Best would be to find one for a 4x4 with the spot on it for the 205 t case shifter. I couldnt so I used the bolt in the shifter with the right size nut and drilled a hole through the floor tunnel and mounted it. I plugged the trans speedo hole with the end off an old cable. I hound that the small driveshaft on a two piece in a 4x2 73-79 was close to the right size.remove the hanger bearing, resize the shaft and use your old slip yoke. I kept my old one in case I changed my mind back to 4 speed. you'll need kickdown linkage and cooler lines, flexplate. trans mount on my c6 (from a 72 f250 4x2) was the same as np435. I had to pull the motor to do it since the crossmember under my motor wasnt removable.
hope this helps
