Brake clicking
Brake clicking
Have had a 2010 escape xlt since dec 09.
yesterday, it started clicking, when i step on the brake. only does this when the engine is running, in park, and step on the brake. It has never done this before. Mechanic here told me it is normal, if it is normal why did it never do it before. Very loud click and vibration under the center console when the brake is steped on. It actually drives me nuts, even though it is only one time when you change from park to whatever gear.
anyway to get rid of this, heard it is some kind of sellinoid, or anti shift lever , can i dissengage it or make it quieter?

took it
took it to the dealer, they are the ones who told me it is normal. they took the center console out and showed me a plastic lever clicking when you step on the brake when in park. said it was normal. i told em if its normal, why has it dot done it in the past 8 months. they then showed me one with 100 km on it, did the same thing only not as loud. a brand new one in the showroom doid not make this noise.
i have seen other posts that say the shift interlock needs adjustment, others say it is normal it is the shift interlock solenoid clicking, and it is supposed to. If it clicked like that when i first looked at it, i would never have bought it!
No one at the dealer service here can tell me why its so loud, and why it is only now doing it, all i can get is it is normal. Allbeit it only happens when you first start the car, step on the brake, and shift from park (one click each time u step on the brake), i cant stand the sound. if the engin is not running, it will not click when you step on the brake.

Seriously, if this is the worst thing you can find about your car, then you must be pretty happy with it overall.
For the record, both of my Escapes make the noise you describe. Leave the radio turned on when you start the car and you won't hear it.
Know what I hate about my Escapes? If I slam the door really hard, it makes a loud noise.....

Congratulations.....you have the most petty complaint about a vehicle that I have ever heard.

I mention this because I myself almost got T-boned in my '09 FE because of hesitation in the middle of a left-hand turn. The dealer finds no CEL, passed test drive, Ford Tech Support doesn't know so we can't help you! Like it never happened!! There are two or three '09 FEH from another forum that are losing power steering for a few seconds, one got the same song and dance from their dealer. Dealers should read their own manuals about symptoms w/wo codes and intermittent symptoms!

My new at the time '04 Escape was pulling badly to the left. The first visit they blamed the crown in the road, the second they rotated the tires and finally on the third they did an alignment. Problem solved. They only get warranty service from me now.
But, in some cases no matter what they do they customer still won't be happy. Like if something really is normal, how do you fix it?
I will agree with you 100% there - the attitude of the service departments is horrible. If they don't think they can make a buck (or several hundred) on something, they don't want to deal with it.

Since I've since been able to duplicate the problem, I have to setup a dealer appointment to prove the problem happens and then call Customer Service so they can press to resolve the problem. It won't be resolved too quickly as it's a complex problem that only Ford engineering can solve, I think.
