Hi All i would like to change my original steering wheel for something abit smaller, the guy that sell's the steering wheel im after say's he needs to know what steering collum i have. I have an auto with the gear change in the collum would this of been original?? how could i find out if it's the original??
I'm assuming by your username and profile this is a 54 F-100 we are talking about.
Do you know if the truck has the "Ford-O-Matic" (stock automatic transmission) installed in it? If it does then the steering column with the auto shifter could be stock (if it hasn't been replaced with somethng else). The steering box and shaft (that the steering wheel would attach to) would be the same as on a truck with a Manual Transmission, IF it's the original column. So, another question is do you have the stock steering box on it?
Here's a diagram of the 54/55 Ford-O-Matic steering column and steering box/shaft:
Pictures would help us alot in identifying what you have!
Hi Julies yep it's for a 54 truck it has the stock steering box. and no the transmission is not original. It does look like the picture's you posted. I would post up pictures but don't know how to. cheers
