I am going to have some work done on my stock 6.0, even though it is running the best it ever has over time. No issues for about 14k miles, and the truck is essentially in retirement, as I am. I drive it hard several times a week, do my own oil changes every 5k and fuel filter changes every 15k miles. Using DeLo 15-40 dino since new. Diesel Kleen every fillup, recently added the coolant filter. Due to lack of skills/laziness, here is what I will have the tech do:
check alternator
check FICM voltage
put in new fangled EGR valve
replace fuel pressure regulator spring
change serpentine belt, maybe tensioner and idler pulley
If you folks can think of anything else that would be worth it while in there, let me know. I appreciate any help, and am thankful for this great site.
When you had the brake work done, did you flush the lines?
I am coming up on a brake fluid flush and will probably upgrade to stainless steel lines.
Check out the copper/nickel lines which are a ton easier to bend AND flare and don't rust either. Stainless is some tough stuff to bend AND flare so eat your wheaties! The copper and nickel stuff resist kinking also and is so easy to bend most bends can be made by hand. They call the material "cunifer".
Good question...just wondering if you have another good zinger for me! I am ready, fire away, young gun!!
Gonna use my buddy who has a small independent shop. He is not a diesel guy, but most of this stuff is nuts and bolts junk. A little lean towards the stealership, but this guy can use the work.
