Ok, I'm thinking about ordering a set of summit shorty headers for my 93 F-150 5.0. You know, the ones for $150.00. I know a lot of you guys run these and I wanted to know any bad experinces you've had with them. Any problems leaking or bolting up to some stock exhaust. I am also concerened with underhood temps and melting the spark plug wires. Has anybody had any problems like these with these headers? Any help or advise would be appreciated.
I may have just gotten lucky, but my shorty smogs from Summit bolted right up to my 91 302. No leaks in 15,000 miles. I do snug up the header bolts about once a month, though.
The next question is of course, "did I notice a difference once I put 'em on?". If there is a difference it's small. But man the headers look sooo much better than the old "logs".
My set of shorty headers from summit bolted right up and have not leaked yet. I love them. Just make sure you use lock tight on the header bolts. Mine used to like backing out. Just my $.02.
flowtech was making the "summit" shortys, mine have about 45000 on them with no problems. best thing to do is spend extra money for stage 8 header bolts, i havent tighten them since i installed them
I did notice an increase in mid to top end. Hard to tell if there was any in the low end with the shorties. I went from factory manifolds with single exhaust to headers and true duals.
